Welcome

Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 as a Christian Housing Ministry seeking to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness in the world.  Since that time, Habitat has worked in partnership with families to build more than 300,000 houses around the world.

The Yankton County Affiliate was formed in 1996 under the guidance of Dr. Kenneth Halvorson.  It was founded on and demonstrates the love and teachings of Jesus by providing decent, affordable homes to those in need.

To date Habitat for Humanity has built 32 homes in Yankton County and are committed to tithing annually to Habitat for Humanity International. Through the annual tithe, Habitat for Humanity of Yankton County has provided funding to build 26 homes overseas.

Your contribuition of money or volunteer time is building a foundation to change the lives of  Habitat Partner Families.

Presidents Note:

We would like to thank our Executive Director Julie Dykstra for her committed service to the HFHYC mission.  Over the years, Julie has gone well beyond the call of duty in her efforts on behalf of Habitat, from logistics to financial and everything in between.  On behalf of the board, we would unanimously wish her the best in her new position at First National Bank in Yankton on October 19.

At the same time, HFHYC will be interviewing people to be the new executive director.  Please refer all inquiries, resumes and letters of interest to my email at steve@jmmwh.com.  Salary and other benefits are negotiable and dependant on experience.  Given the time constraints and the current construction, HFHYC would be very interested in having its executive committee interview candidates yet this week if at all possible, so a potential new executive director could work with Julie and have the benefit of her on the job knowledge.

Additionally, our board will be losing several members.  We would greatly appreciate anyone having an interest and commitment to HFHYC contacting me or another board member that he or she may know and express interest in the board positions coming open.  The more interested and committed board members we have, the better we will be able to serve our current and future HFH families.

Steve Huff, President
